Spiders

Spiders follow their food. Webs that build up under eaves, around porch lights, along soffits and across deck railings are usually there because those spots collect the flying insects spiders feed on. Indoors, they gather in basements, crawl spaces, garages, storage areas and window wells — quiet places with little foot traffic.

What to look for

Webbing in corners, along soffits and around exterior lighting. Egg sacs attached to webs, in sheltered corners and under railings. A rise in activity in late summer and autumn, when many species mature and become more visible.
