Flies
Flies are a breeding-site problem. Knocking down the adults in a room clears it briefly, but as long as the material they are developing in is still present, new adults keep emerging. Identifying the species is what points to the source.
House flies
House flies develop in decaying organic material — garbage, waste build-up in and around bins, and animal waste. They enter through doors, gaps and unscreened openings, and they carry bacteria onto food surfaces.
Drain flies
Drain flies breed in the organic film that builds up inside floor drains, sink traps and lines that are rarely used. They are small, fuzzy and weak fliers, and they are usually seen resting on walls near the drain they came from.
Fruit flies
Fruit flies develop in fermenting residue: overripe produce, spillage under equipment, recycling bins, mop sinks and beverage lines. A very small amount of residue can support a large population.
